National Reconnaissance Office

The National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) is a UCAS intelligence agency within the Department of Defense, and a member of the UCAS Intelligence Community. The director of the agency is a civilian, who is also an Assistant Secretary within the Department of the Air Force. The purpose of the NRO is to design, build, maintain and operate the nation's spy satellites. It does not perform any intelligence-gathering or analysis itself, but rather its function is to provide support to the agencies which rely extensively on satellite surveillance--both visual and electronic. This leads to them coordinating heavily with CIA, NSA, and (presumably, but it has not been confirmed) the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency, which is the lead agency for the collection and analysis of Imagery Intelligence (IMINT) utilizing (among other things) NRO's spy satellites.

Due to the UCAS' close relationship with Ares Macrotechnology, and the fact that AresSpace is the leader in aerospace and orbital technology, NRO has strong ties to Ares as one of the leading contractors in the building and maintenance of NRO satellites.
