From Sixth World Wiki
Just a note that people should post suggested modifications to the front page to here, and I'll port them over, pending time.

[edit] This ain't your father's wikipedia.
Hey, chummers - shouldn't that read "From SixthWorld, the free shadowpedia" - or somedrek like that?
--Haze 14:01, 5 Sep 2004 (Eastern Standard Time)
I don't think so. I do intend to change that line sometime in the future, but this is an encylopedia about the Sixth World, not some in-game matrix node thing. ;-)
--AdamJury 16:41, 5 Sep 2004 (Eastern Standard Time)
I keep wondering whether the top level page should have the links to Shadowrun RPG, Shadowrun Novels, and Megacorporations.
msde 16:50, 7 Sep 2004 (Eastern Daylight Time)
I like the idea of the in-game matrix node thing. It's immersive. ;)
--SwordRaven 10:27, 6 May 2005 (EDT)
That would be great, if immersion was a goal of this wiki, which it's not... it's supposed to be an OOC canon reference to the Sixth World, not a roleplaying device. You can check out some of the goals of this wiki on Adam's user page. --Hahnsoo 20:25, 6 May 2005 (EDT)
[edit] Major Reformat
The Sixth World Wiki Summary has now been inserted into the main page as a template. You can still edit the summary if you go to the page itself.
[edit] http://wiki.shadowhelix.de collaboration
Whose website is this? I cannot find any contact information. I am CyberDruid and i am running a german Shadowrun Wiki with some Chummers. We thought, that we could work together.
An we would like to translate some of your articles, put some new facts and topics in it and pubish them on our SR-Wiki. Our page is GNU FDL, too.
Please contact me via eMail oder ICQ: 138117.
--CyberDruid 08:18, 7 Oct 2004 (Eastern Daylight Time)
The technical aspects are maintained by Adam Jury, but this is a GNU FDL Wiki. By definition, it pretty much has no owner. I believe that the GNU FDL allows you to republish the contents of this Wiki without explicit permission however you want if you are also GNU FDL.
I'm not sure what to do about German content. Based on my understanding of the wikipedia, we'd love to have it, but would want to translate it to English. In either case, more content is always good, and it can get translated later. Where is the german wiki? If it's FDL, we can start sharing information back and forth.
--msde 12:47, 7 Oct 2004 (Eastern Daylight Time)
Our wiki is located at http://wiki.shadowhelix.de and it's FDL. We just started the wiki, that's why there are not that much articles on it. I know that we could republish our content without permission, but I think it is more nice to ask before stealing our stuff.
Here is an article about Japan where we used some of your content. The authors and your article is listed below Quellenangaben (list of references)
Is that ok to you? Can someone of your team read/Write german? If so - we could work together. You translate our aricles to your english wiki and we do the same with your articles.
--CyberDruid 10:09, 8 Oct 2004 (Eastern Daylight Time)
I believe you're too worried about ownership. It's polite to inform us that you're using our content, and it may be necessary to mention us, but there's no such thing as stealing with FDL as long as the original source is mentioned. FDL is all about sharing!
The second link gives me a 404 error but the main link works. From the few words of German that I understand and the help of altavista.babelfish.com, everything seems fine to me. The mention of dumpshock wiki with attached link is enough, although the direct link to Japan certainly is convenient. A link to the page history is probably unnecessary, unless you want it for style reasons. As a nitpick, the name of this place is the Sixth World Wiki, kindly hosted and maintained by folks at dumpshock.com. I think Sixth World Wiki (with hyperlink) or dumpshock's sixth world wiki would probably be more appropriate. In the future, this may not be dumpshock's only wiki.
I don't know if any of us can write German, but machine translation followed by editing should be enough to get a rough draft up. Due to the nature of wikis, a rough draft is enough, because any mistakes will eventually be corrected.
I hope that I don't sound like I'm not interested in your wiki. I don't consider the FDL concerns to be a big deal, but I am very interested in collaborating on articles. This wiki has only been around since August 2004.

[edit] Legal issues?
I'm interested in helping out with the wiki, but I don't see anything about what we're legally allowed to use from the original source material. For example, I'm interested in filling in such things as the overviews of the corps as listed in Corporate Download, but I'm not sure if that's permitted or not.
--FloodSpectre 21:08, 13 Oct 2004 (Eastern Daylight Time)
Basically: Reproducing FanPro- or FASA-produced [and thus WizKids-owned] text verbatim is frowned upon, and will be removed if it is blatant. Material here should be summaries and/or compilations/cross-references of material from other sources.
--AdamJury 12:28, 14 Oct 2004 (Eastern Daylight Time)
One other legal issue; is it legal to say, scan a portion of artwork from a sourcebook and use that in an entry? Does that fall under the jurisdiction of the above legal disclaimer from WizKids? If not, would it fall under "fair use" law? Also, is it legally preferable to use a full piece of art rather than a part of it (in terms of any image alteration considerations, if any)?
--J. Johnson 00:49, 3 Dec 2004 (Central Daylight Time)
WizKids wants people to obtain permission for each and every WizKids-owned image, with the exception of the Shadowrun logo that they've given blanket permission for. We've already broken that rule in some respects, and don't have a resolution for it. On one hand, I think we should toe WizKid's line, but on the other hand, I think fair use likely applies as long as we're careful. But I'm not a laywer and don't play one on the internet. . .
WizKid's legal stuff regarding Shadowrun is at: http://www.shadowrunrpg.com/legal.shtml
--AdamJury 01:54, 23 Dec 2004 (Eastern Standard Time)
Hey, now that the critter book is a freebie, can we start inserting the descriptions of the critters here? No stats, just data; descriptions, habitat, range, etc.
--Eldritch 19:46, 1 Mar 2005 (EST)
No. Just because something is being distributed for free does not give you the right to further distribute it. FanPro/WizKids likely doesn't get about summary information, but wholesale cut and pastes of the description text would not be tolerated.
--AdamJury 21:08, 1 Mar 2005 (EST)
Aren't we supposed to have that funky giant block of disclaimer text somewhere from the shadowrunrpg.com website?
--SwordRaven 20:07, 3 May 2005 (EDT)
- It's there, at the bottom of the Main Page.
--Hahnsoo 20:25, 3 May 2005 (EDT)
What happened to all the pictures?? <-- What the hell IS this? (SwordRaven)
- That was me. I accidentally didn't sig it. All of the pictures were broken a couple months back. They have been fixed.--Hahnsoo 20:24, 3 May 2005 (EDT)
- Oh, no worries. In retrospect it looked a bit rude, but I was just confused rather than anything else. --SwordRaven 10:28, 6 May 2005 (EDT)
[edit] ###New User calling from Brit Zone##
Hoi,
just uploading some drekk to all you fraggers. Been playing Shadowrun since'89. Though not really been playing recently (like 5years, dont ask). Just got the 4th Edition Rules on PDF, and starting to get my campaign on the rails. Has anyone read the new Rules, and whats their opinions. I was thinking of restarting my campaign where I left off, but there has been some radical changes since my absence. Anyone got any suggestions? Should I start off in the late 2050's, and work my way to the new era. Or just start off, in the 2070's?
All the best, and keep a large gun near your pillow at night!
There is a thread about this exact problem on the dumpshock forums http://forums.dumpshock.com under sr4. Apologies if that's your thread ;) I would personally start off in the new era but that's because I like it :D --SwordRaven 05:21, 13 March 2006 (EST)
[edit] List of canon material?
Perhaps a running list of books that are up to date and what edition they are good for would be good to put up on this site? ISBN numbers should be included so that people can find them easily to purchase.
For example I was thinking of a format like this:
4th Edition
- Shadowrun 4th Edition Core rulebook
- System Failure source book
3rd Edition
- Shadowrun Third Edition Core rulebook
- Shadowrun GM Screen & Critters Sourcebook
- Shadowrun Companion
- Shadowrun Quick Start Rules
- Magic in the Shadows
- Matrix
- Rigger 3 Revised
- The Shadowrun Character Dossier
- Man and Machine
- Cannon Companion
And then maybe a third section for books that can be used with any edition (but noting where they are outdated or behind the offical timeline).
- Corporate Download (Outdated)
- Target: Matrix (Outdated)
- Year of the Comet (Current)
- Target: Awakened Lands (Outdated)
- Threats 2 (Outdated)
- Shadows of North America (Outdated)
- Edited for clarity and title spelling. Honestly, the list of canon material can probably be looked up on the wiki by going to these links: Shadowrun Reference Standard Shadowrun RPG Shadowrun Novels Thus, it isn't necessary to create a brand new link. -Hahnsoo
Furthermore, I'd argue that words like "outdated" aren't useful -- Target: Awakened Lands, for instance, may not be set in 2070, but it hasn't been superceded by any material. Adding the dates that a product covers to the product pages would be useful, though. (Furthermore, in the examples given, I'm not sure how Year of the Comet would be "current" when Target: Awakened Lands is "outdated", considering that T:AL occurs *after* YotC and is less timeline-specific anyway! So, uh, yeah ... I'm not sure useful the base idea is. Open to suggestions on how we can post more info that is useful to the SWW about each book.

[edit] Others langages section ?
I propose to add a section (in main page or in menu) "Others langages Sixth World Wiki" with external links to :

[edit] Small problem...
Sorry for your time.... Why i can't see images on this resource? My Browser is: Opera. Thank you.
First Please remember to sign your posts with using --~~~~.
As to your problem. Can you please tell me exactly what images you can't see on which pages? I just loaded the latest version of opera and have no problem viewing images on this site with it using the default settings. Thanks! --Draco 12:38, 10 October 2006 (EDT)
